What is “Communication Skills?" Part 1
One of the current educational objectives in Japan is to "cultivate expressiveness."
So, what exactly is "expressiveness"?
Simply being able to speak or write in Japanese does not necessarily mean you have "expressiveness."
"Expressiveness" refers to the skill or the capacity to express thoughts and ideas fluently and coherently.
Of course, this is an essential skill, especially in job interviews.
One method of clear explanation is called the "SDS method."
"SDS" stands for:
S... "Summary"
D... "Details"
S... "Summary"
This technique helps to explain things clearly when used in this order.
For example, if the topic is "Tell me about your hobbies,"
S: My hobby is "solo karaoke."
D: "Solo karaoke" refers to going to karaoke alone multiple times. I ended up becoming acquainted with the staff and started receiving beer without having to order because I went alone so often.
S: This is why "solo karaoke" is my hobby.
Like that.
This example is simple, but if you want to talk for a long time, you can make the "D" part longer.
There are various other techniques as well, so I will introduce them gradually in the future.
