Elite Students Joined the Speech Contest!
On Sunday, December 11th, the Waseda International Club (WIC) held the 57th Japanese speech contest for international students. Our Elite students Ms. Wu Junyao and Mr. Li Yonjian joined this remarkable event. Ms. Wu’s made a speech about overcoming insecurities of and becoming the owner of your feelings whilst Mr. Li made a speech about being a foreigner in Japan.
Ms. Wu won the Audience Award! She was able to send her message and talk about not just losing to the supremacy of appearance (lookism), but also the importance of self-care and owning oneself. She was able to send her message in a way that was powerful enough to have a positive impact on the audience through her words and gestures combined.
Mr. Li was no different. He had a unique way of showing his perspective, sharing his thoughts regarding the discrimination people go through just because of their appearance. “We tend to be subconsciously biased, but we should keep choosing to communicate and be tolerant”
Listening to their speeches, it is an understatement to say that they both worked hard on it. Their message and delivery were remarkable! We also would like to praise both students for their courage to join this speech contest. Keep up the good work, students! We are proud of you!
