Marine Day

Yesterday (July 18) we celebrated Marine Day, an annual holiday in Japan.

It is usually celebrated on the 3rd Monday of July – which is said to be a day to appreciate the benefits of the sea and a day to also wish well for the prosperity of Japan. Marine Day was originally celebrated July 20th and was initially called “Anniversary of the Ocean” before it was celebrated the way it is now. They finally changed started celebrating it on the 3rd Monday of July starting from July 2003. Apparently, only Japan has a “Marine Day” holiday. Japan is a country surrounded by different seas, so be sure to visit the beach this summer if you have time.
