KEY POINTS FOR YOUR INTERVIEW
Since last year, an increasing number of universities have been conducting interview tests online. Today, we would like to share bits and pieces of information about these online type interviews.
Online interview is 80% preparation and 20% performance, so it really is necessary to prepare in advance.
1. TIDY UP
During the interview, not only you, the interviewee, but also your surroundings will be noticed.
Is your room messy? Is the lighting bright? Proper lighting is especially important.
Tidy up your surroundings so that it looks neat before your interview.
2. CHECK THOROUGHLY
During online interviews, problems such as internet interruptions and inaudible audio may occur. First, check the tools that you need for the interview including the video conferencing platform you’ll be using and emergency contact information.
If possible, prepare two devices just in case something inevitable happens with your main device. We also recommend using a headset/ earphone with a microphone to hear and convey your message clearly. Check your connection status 15 minutes before your interview. Also try to log in early so that you will have a good impression with regards to your time management even before your interview starts.
3. PRACTICE WITH A FRIEND
It is also important to get an objective opinion of how you are viewed. Have a friend act as an interviewer and practice your interview online. You can also ask for advice so you would know which parts you can still improve.
“Was my voice clear?” “Was I looking at the camera instead of the screen?” You can either ask that to your friend when you both practice for your interview, or if you use the recording function on Zoom, you can check it yourself later.
Some people put their manuscript on their desk and read it out loud, which sometimes can be noticed by the interviewer. It is possible that they might think of this negatively as they might think that you did not practice hard enough for the interview. If you are just worried, you can write important points on a sticky note and have that as your guide. If you put it next to the camera, you will be able to talk freely without your eyes shifting drastically.
These are just some points for online interview.
